Professional Water Testing for Urban Residential and Commercial Property

Water delivered into a densely built environment travels further inside private property than it does anywhere else. Vertical distribution, shared risers, mixed era piping and highly variable occupancy all shape what reaches an individual tap.

Olympian Water Testing provides professional water testing for apartments and condominiums, multifamily buildings, mixed use property, commercial tenancies, schools and childcare premises across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Why Urban Property Presents Differently

In a large property a single riser may serve many units, branch lines split from it at each floor, and the pattern of use varies from one unit to the next. Two apartments on the same riser can therefore return different values.

Stagnation is the dominant variable for anything the plumbing contributes, and lead bearing components remain in current use throughout the path, including brass faucet bodies, angle stops, mixing valves and pipe fittings.

How Parameter Selection and Sampling Are Determined

Parameter selection is determined through an in depth consultation with one of our consultants, frequently conducted in writing, covering the property type, its plumbing history and the reason for testing.

Our sampling technicians perform the site visit, with points selected to distinguish a unit condition from a riser condition and a property wide condition. Access is coordinated in advance and holding times are observed for every parameter selected.

Understanding Our Reporting

Our reporting identifies each sampling point and its position within the property, the analytical method, the reporting limit and the measured value.

Olympian Water Testing provides professional drinking-water sampling throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Testing is selected around the water source, property, plumbing system and reason for the investigation, with analysis performed by an accredited environmental laboratory.

Olympian Water Testing has served urban property across the region since 1991, from five departure locations across the five boroughs, with NELAP accredited laboratory analysis.

Common questions

What are the biggest differences between urban water and water at the tap?
Urban utilities manage source water and distribution, while individual properties add service lines, building plumbing, fixtures and water-use conditions that can influence the final water quality.
What drinking-water concerns are common in large buildings?
Potential concerns include lead and copper from plumbing, bacteria associated with building water systems, Legionella in certain facilities, and contaminants already present in the incoming supply.
Can low-use areas of a building have different water quality?
Yes. Water age and low-use branches can create conditions different from frequently used outlets, so sampling plans may include both typical and problem locations.
How do you choose sampling points in a large property?
Locations are selected around the client’s concerns, building layout, water use and any applicable testing requirement rather than simply taking the easiest available faucet.
